Dr. Brian W. Fong, DMD
General Dentist, Owner
Dr. Fong has been serving the Bay Area since 2002, after graduating from Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree following his UCLA education. He specializes in preventative dentistry, holistic oral health, and advanced digital, laser and cosmetic dentistry.
Leveraging his knowledge and passion for technology, he has established a state-of-the-art practice to provide excellent, personalized care for your unique dental needs. Outside the practice, you'll find him chauffeuring his three boys, cooking, snowboarding, and playfully ignoring his wife's love of K-pop culture.
PROSTHODONTICS
Dr. Katerina Kostagianni, DMD, MS Prosthodontist
Dr. Kostagianni earned her Certificate and Master’s in Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree (DMD) at Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 2014. She has also completed a 1-Year Implant Prosthodontics Fellowship at the University of Maryland in complex Restorative and Surgical Implant procedures.
She has served as an Assistant Professor in the Post-Graduate Esthetics and Prosthodontics Program at Tufts School of Dental Medicine and her passion lies in creating confident smiles with her focus on implant dentistry and cosmetic rehabilitation. In her free time, she loves exploring the Bay Area with her family.
ENDODONTICS
Dr. Timothy Wen, DDS Endodontist
Dr. Wen graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and he received his Doctoral of Dental Surgery from UCSF School of Dentistry in 2016. He completed his General Practice Residency with NY Medical College and completed his post-graduate program in Endodontics at SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine.
In addition to his focus on providing personalized and compassionate care, his research interests include endodontic instrument design and regeneration. Outside of dentistry, he has many hobbies that range from rock climbing and snowboarding to playing music.
PERIODONTICS
Dr. Neetal Smith, DDS, MS Periodontist
Dr. Smith received her Doctorate from the Arthur A. Dugani School of Dentistry in San Francisco, studied Periodontics at UCSF School of Dentistry, and received her Masters in Oral and Cranio Facial Science with a Dental Implant research emphasis. Practicing since 2010 as a board-certified periodontist, she’s committed to providing exceptional care with a gentle touch.
PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY
Dr. Courtney Brooks, DMD Pediatric Dentist
Dr. Brooks graduated with her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine after completing her undergraduate degree at UCLA. She then completed her training in pediatric dentistry at the internationally acclaimed University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2004
As a mother first, Dr. Brooks understands that every child and family is unique. She has dedicated her career to providing the highest quality dental care and building trusting partnerships with her patients and their families. Outside of dentistry, she spends her time volunteering for local non-profits and shuttling her children to various activities.
PERIODONTICS
Dr. Michael Nguyen, DDS, MS Periodontist
Dr. Nguyen earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, and received dual certificates in Periodontology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and from the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Hospital. He’s a board certified specialist and expert in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery treating complex full-mouth cases involving advanced bone grafting and multiple dental implants, working closely with Dr. Kostagianni to bring the best care possible to patients needing advanced rehabilitation of their mouths.
He’s a Bay Area native, enjoys an active lifestyle, including bicycling and hiking, but most of all he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Becky Nguyen, DDS
General Dentist
Dr. Becky Nguyen earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco and honed her clinical expertise through a residency at NYU Langone in San Jose. Known for her warm, approachable demeanor, Dr. Nguyen is dedicated to making each patient’s visit comfortable and positive while fostering lasting relationships and helping them achieve their best smile.
Outside the office, she loves staying active with pilates, browsing local farmers’ markets and discovering new restaurants.
DENTAL ANESTHESIA & SEDATION
Dr. Alex Targ, MD
Anesthesiologist
Dr. Alex Targ is a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 20 years of experience specializing in dental sedation and anesthesia, particularly for children. He earned his B.S. in Biophysics and Biochemistry from Stanford and completed both medical school and anesthesiology training at UCSF. He has served on the clinical faculty at UCSF and Stanford, and authored more than 30 scientific publications. Dr. Targ uses the latest monitoring equipment to safely provide both inhaled (sevoflurane) and IV sedation.
Highly regarded for his calm demeanor, clinical expertise, and focus on safety, Dr. Targ works closely with dental teams to ensure a smooth, stress-free experience for families. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and three daughters.

We reserve up to 120 minutes for your first visit, which typically includes a comprehensive dental exam, professional dental cleaning, and advanced 3D digital radiographs. This thorough approach allows our doctors and hygienists to accurately assess your oral health and create a personalized care plan tailored to your needs.
To prepare for your upcoming appointment, Dental Center of Atherton provides patient forms online. Completing your forms in advance helps ensure a smooth and timely check-in on the day of your visit.

We accept most dental insurance plans as an out-of-network provider to provide you with the very best comprehensive dental care for your oral health, and to maximize your comfort and time efficiency for single-visit treatment options for your convenience. Our focus is on your individualized care and we will do our best to help you maximize your insurance benefits whenever possible. We cannot guarantee reimbursement by any insurance company, and ultimately you are responsible for any remaining balances in your account.
We believe your oral health concerns and smile should not be left untreated because of financial concerns. As a service to you, we will provide dental treatment options that take into account your budget considerations and provide transparency in fees. Your treatment plan will include a breakdown of all applicable fees, and we will inform you of all costs before any treatment. We also provide financing options to help you make the best decisions for your oral health.

Our office has been working cooperatively with Delta Dental Insurance for approximately 20 years. With the recent decrease in Delta’s reimbursement rates to dental practices beginning January 1, 2023, we have found that it has become unsustainable to offer comprehensive care options with Delta Dental Insurance as an in-network provider. Due to these increasing limitations, our office has made the difficult decision to transition from being an in-network to an out-of-network provider for Delta Dental Insurance. This will become effective on date: June 1, 2023.

We offer an in-house membership plan that includes routine care at no additional cost, provides exclusive discounts on procedures, with benefits that start immediately and runs for 12 months from the date you join. No deductibles, waiting periods, annual maximums, denials of claims, or pre-approvals.

When you schedule an appointment, we are happy to reserve the doctor’s time exclusively for you. When you cancel an appointment with little notice, it not only disrupts the doctor’s schedule, but that of our dental team. Should you need to reschedule, please contact us at least 48 business hours in advance.
Without this courtesy, a fee of $100 per hour scheduled will be applied to your account.
